The population is very unevenly distributed.In 2009, the density is slightly higher than 30 inhabitants per square kilometer, four times lower than that of the European Union 3.
Between 1950 and 2010, the density increased from 8-34 per km2, but remained well below the world average (47 inhab. / Km2) .The most densely populated areas are the coast of Maghrebd 'Agadirà Tunis, the Nile valley to Aswan, Ethiopia, Africa Ouestau south of a line connecting Dakar, Bamako, Ouagadougou and Abuja as well as the coast of southern Africa between Cape Town and Maputo.At the extremes are Mauritius (600 inhab. / Km2) and Namibia (2 hab. / Km2).Unlike Asia, the major river valleys are not very densely populated, with the exception of the basins of the Nile and Niger.
